Let's get to know two ExtraHoppers, Mike and Emily, who both kick-started their careers as interns and are now bonafide employees doing impactful and innovative work on a daily basis.
As a UX designer on the product team, Mike works closely with product managers, engineers, solutions teams, and customers to ensure the ExtraHop UI delivers valuable insights while being easy and efficient to use. He researches and plans new features, explores design solutions, iterates on mockups and prototypes, and performs usability testing to polish the experience.
Q: How would you describe the company culture?
Q: What makes ExtraHop unique? A: Behind our amazing technology is an amazing group of people, all of whom are passionate about the success of the company and supportive of one another. The amount of ingenuity, hard work, achievement, and humility in this company never fails to impress me.
Q: What's it like working at ExtraHop? A: Besides the people, what attracted me to ExtraHop as a student looking for an internship, was the opportunity to work on challenging design problems that involve manipulating, visualizing, and scaling a rich set of time-series metrics. It's very satisfying to work on a UI that customers use to pinpoint crucial problems in their IT environment and that some teams even display 24/7 on huge screens in their operations center.
Q: What fictional character would you be, and why? A: I definitely have to go with Rick from "Rick and Morty" so I could travel the multiverse, watch inter-dimensional TV, and take Roy off the grid.
Emilymanager of the IT Applications department, Emily reports to the CIO and manages a team of developers building and implementing tools to help the sales and marketing teams meet their goals.
Q: How would you describe the company culture? A: If I had to boil it down to one thing, I would say ExtraHop has a learning culture. There are new learning opportunities across the company everyday.
Q: What makes ExtraHop unique? A: The drive to do what is right. Not everyone always agrees on how to solve a problem, or even what the problem is. But across the board, everyone wants to do what is right for the company and our customers.
Q: What's the most important lesson you've learned at ExtraHop? A: It's okay to be wrong. As Miss Frizzle says, "Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!"
Q: Do you have a mentor at the company? How has that impacted your experience? A: I've had two: CFO Palvi Mehta and CIO John Matthews. These two couldn't be more different, but I've gained invaluable knowledge from each of them. Having a tight working relationship with Palvi, and John has afforded me a greater understanding of what matters at an executive level and I am a better leader for it.
Q: What's it like working at ExtraHop? A: I love the satisfaction of having built something successful. It's what keeps me coming back day-in, day-out. I am immensely proud of the company we've built and am really excited to take it to the next level.
Q: What fictional character would you be, and why? A: I would go with Daenerys Targaryen because she is strong, knows what she wants, and out-maneuvers pretty much everyone that comes her way. And also, dragons.
