MAC Address Mask Filter Example

#1

Can someone please provide an example of a MAC Address mask filter for use in the capture feature?

#2

The Mask entry field can be used to indicate how many bits, from left to right, the filter checks against the MAC address. For example, to require an exact match with the MAC address (to check all 48 bits) enter FF:FF.FF:FF.FF:FF in the mask filter. To check only the first 32 bits, enter FF:FF:FF:FF:00:00 …ect.

In this situation the full MAC Address will be excluded from the capture

Example: Mac address: 5c:da:4c:ae:7f:8e:9f Filter Mask: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

In this situation the only the first 24 bits from Left to right are scrutinized.

Example: Mac address: 5c:da:4c:ae:7f:8e:9f Filter Mask: FF:FF:FF:00:00:00
